Overview

Expert care tailored for excellence.

Healthy gums are the foundation of a healthy smile and a healthy body. Dr. Gauri Kumbhar, our Periodontics expert, specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal disease. Using advanced soft-tissue laser technology, we offer minimally invasive treatments for gum disease, gum contouring (for gummy smiles), and implant maintenance. Laser dentistry means less bleeding, faster healing, and virtually zero discomfort.

The Silent Epidemic: Gum Disease

Periodontal (gum) disease is called the "silent disease" because it often progresses painlessly until significant damage has occurred. If your hands bled when you washed them, you would rush to the doctor. Yet, millions of people ignore bleeding gums when they brush or floss. Bleeding is the first sign of Gingivitis — and if left untreated, it progresses into Periodontitis, the leading cause of tooth loss in adults.

Studies show that nearly 47% of adults over 30 have some form of periodontal disease. The number rises to 70% in those over 65.

5 Warning Signs You Cannot Ignore

  1. Pink in the Sink: Bleeding during brushing or flossing. This is never normal.
  2. Persistent Bad Breath: Halitosis that won't go away with mouthwash — it's caused by bacteria hiding deep below the gum line.
  3. Receding Gums: Your teeth look "longer" than usual because the gum tissue is pulling back, exposing root surfaces.
  4. Swollen, Red Gums: Healthy gums should be firm and pale pink. Red, puffy gums indicate active inflammation.
  5. Shifting Teeth: Finding new gaps between your teeth or noticing they look crooked — bone loss is causing them to migrate.

Why Laser Dentistry Changes Everything

Traditional gum surgery involved cutting with a scalpel and holding tissue together with sutures. The result: significant post-operative pain, swelling, and a recovery period of 1–2 weeks. Soft-tissue laser therapy has fundamentally changed this equation.

Our diode laser:

  • Selectively destroys bacteria without damaging healthy tissue
  • Cauterizes blood vessels as it works — resulting in virtually bloodless procedures
  • Stimulates biostimulation — enhancing cellular regeneration and faster healing
  • Eliminates the need for sutures in most cases
  • Reduces post-operative pain by 60–80% compared to traditional surgery
"Gum disease doesn't just affect your mouth — it's linked to heart disease, diabetes, and even pregnancy complications. Treating your gums is treating your whole body." — Dr. Gauri Kumbhar

Gummy Smile Correction

A "gummy smile" — where excessive gum tissue is visible when you smile — can make teeth appear short and disproportionate. Through a procedure called aesthetic crown lengthening, Dr. Gauri Kumbhar precisely reshapes the gum line using laser technology to reveal more tooth structure, creating a balanced, harmonious smile. The procedure is quick, minimally invasive, and delivers immediate visible results.

Treatment Process

How it works.

01

Periodontal Probing

Using calibrated probes to measure pocket depths at six points around every tooth. Depths over 3mm indicate gum disease. We also assess bone levels using digital X-rays.

02

Deep Cleaning (SRP)

Scaling and root planing — a meticulous, quadrant-by-quadrant procedure to remove calculus (tarite) and bacterial biofilm from below the gum line and smooth the root surfaces.

03

Laser Decontamination

Using soft-tissue diode lasers to selectively destroy bacteria deep in the gum pockets while promoting new tissue attachment. No scalpel, no sutures, minimal bleeding.

04

Maintenance Protocol

A customized recall schedule — typically every 3–4 months instead of the standard 6 — to monitor pocket depths, reinforce home care technique, and prevent disease recurrence.
